The 34th and 35th anniversary events of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis in honour of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 were carried out successfully and in the presence of Most Rev. Metropolitan Symeon of Phthiotis. The 34th anniversary event was carried out in the picturesque square of the historical town of Tithorea (Velitsa) under the shadow of the century-old plane tree where the chieftains of Roumeli would hold their meetings and specifically Odysseas Androutsos. The topic of the event was “Odysseas Androutsos, Fighter of the Revolution”. The keynote speaker of the event was the academic Ms Maria Efthymiou, Associate Professor of History at the University of Athens, and representatives of local government and ecclesiastical authorities. The event was followed by a traditional folk music concert.

The 35th anniversary event on the topic “The faith of the rebelling Greeks in the Blessed Virgin Mary” was held in the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of BVM of Damasta against the backdrop of the sea of the Maliacos Gulf and the beautiful town of Lamia. Papers were delivered by the Learned Mr Constantinos Holevas and Political Scientist and other eminent scholars and the participants were greeted by the Mother Superior of the Monastery, Sister Ioanna the Doctor. The event was adorned by a concert of folk songs performed by the “Ghermanos the Melodist” Choir and the traditional instruments orchestra of the Conservatoire of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis.

Both events were closed by our Most Rev. Metropolitan Symeon, who addressed the guests appropriately. They were broadcast by the “Star of Central Greece” TV Channel on Sunday, August 22 (the 34th event) and Monday, August 23, 2021 (the 35th event) at 11 a.m.

- On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 10h30, following the Solemn Archieratical Divine Liturgy, the 37th anniversary event on the topic “Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, teacher of the Nation”, in the holy church of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia in the social housing area of Nea Magnesia, Lamia.
- On Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 21h30, in the “Saint Catherine” camping centre of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis, the 38th anniversary event on the topic “In the footsteps of Father Cosmas. An approach through a drama performance with music and dancing”.
- On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10h, in the Vassilika site, in Reghini, a Memorial Service for those fallen in the Battle of Vassilika on August 26, 1821. Subsequently, at 20h45, wreaths to be laid before the Memorial in honour of those fallen, in the courtyard of the historic church of BVM in Reghini; at 21h15, the 39th anniversary event of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis in cooperation with the Municipality of Kamena Vourla, on the topic “The Battle of Vassilika”.
