Holy Metropolitanate of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Irakleion & Halkidon – Municipality of Nea Philadelphia and Nea Halkidon: The part played by the clergy and the Church in the Revolution of 1821

On Tuesday, March 23, at 19h, the Holy Metropolitanate of Nea Ionia, Philadephia, Irakleion and Halkidon and the Municipality of Nea Philadelphia and Nea Halkidon co-organised an online event live on the subject “The part played by the clergy and the Church in the Revolution of 1821”.

The following speakers took part in the debate:

• Most Rev. Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Irakleion & Halkidon,
• Mr Ioannis Vouros, Mayor of Nea Philadelphia and Nea Halkidon.
• the Very Rev. Archimandrite Father Vartholomaios Antoniou-Triantaphyllidis, Secretary of the Special Synodic Committee of the Church of Greece on Cultural Identity,
• Mr Kyriakos Henas, historian, and
• Prof. Emmanuel Varvounis of Folklore at the Department of History and Ethnology of the Democritean University of Thrace and Chairman of the Scholarly Committee of the Special Synodic Committee of Cultural Identity.
